FileMint is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and the measures we take to keep it safe.

TL;DR: FileMint never stores your uploaded files. They are deleted immediately after conversion. We don't sell your data. Ever.

1. Information We Collect

FileMint collects minimal information to provide and improve our services:


Information you provide:

  • Account information (email address, name) when you sign up via Google OAuth
  • Files you upload for conversion (processed in-memory and deleted immediately)
  • Messages you send us via the contact form

    • Information collected automatically:

  • Browser type, operating system, and device information
  • IP address and general location (country/region level)
  • Pages visited, features used, and time spent on FileMint
  • Error logs and performance data to improve reliability

    • We do not use third-party advertising trackers or sell your data to any third party.

    2. How We Use Your Information

    FileMint uses the information we collect to:


  • Provide the service: Process your file conversions and deliver results
  • Improve FileMint: Analyze usage patterns to fix bugs and add new features
  • Authenticate users: Verify identity for accounts and API access
  • Send important updates: Service announcements, security notices (no spam)
  • Respond to support requests: Address questions or issues you raise
  • Maintain security: Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, or unauthorized access

    • We will never use your data for advertising profiling or sell it to third parties.

    3. Your Files & Conversion Data

    This is the most important section for most FileMint users.


  • Files you upload to FileMint are processed entirely in memory
  • Files are immediately deleted from our servers after conversion is complete (within seconds)
  • We do not store, read, analyze, or share the content of your files
  • Conversion metadata (format, size, timestamp) may be stored temporarily for your conversion history if you are logged in
  • If you are not logged in, no record of your conversion is retained

    • FileMint is designed with a privacy-first architecture. Your documents, spreadsheets, and data files are private and we intend to keep it that way.

    4. Data Sharing & Third Parties

    FileMint does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.


    We may share limited information with:


  • Infrastructure providers (e.g., hosting, CDN): Only to operate the service. These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data.
  • Authentication provider (Google OAuth): When you sign in with Google, Google's privacy policy applies to that interaction.
  • Legal requirements: If required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the public.

    • We will always inform you of any material changes to our data sharing practices.

    5. Cookies & Tracking

    FileMint uses a minimal set of cookies:


  • Session cookies: Required to keep you logged in during a session
  • Preference cookies: To remember your settings (e.g., preferred output format)
  • Analytics cookies: Anonymized usage data to understand how FileMint is used (e.g., most popular conversions)

    • We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though this may affect some features like staying logged in.

    6. Data Retention

  • Uploaded files: Deleted immediately after conversion (within seconds)
  • Account data: Retained while your account is active. You can request deletion at any time.
  • Conversion history: Stored for logged-in users for up to 90 days, then automatically purged. You can delete individual records or your full history at any time.
  • Contact form messages: Retained for up to 1 year to track and resolve issues.
  • Analytics data: Aggregated and anonymized; retained indefinitely for service improvement.

    7. Security

    FileMint implements industry-standard security measures:


  • All data transmission is encrypted using TLS (HTTPS)
  • File uploads are processed in isolated environments
  • API keys and passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text
  • Regular security audits and dependency updates
  • Access to production systems is restricted to authorized personnel only

    • While we take every reasonable precaution, no system is 100% secure. If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it to security@thefilemint.com.

    8. Your Rights

    You have the right to:


  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your account and associated data
  • Export your data in a machine-readable format
  • Opt-out of non-essential communications

    For users in the EU/EEA, these rights are guaranteed under the GDPR. For California residents, these rights are guaranteed under the CCPA.

    9. Children's Privacy

    FileMint is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us at privacy@thefilemint.com and we will delete it promptly.

    10. Changes to This Policy

    We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will:


  • Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
  • Notify registered users via email for material changes
  • Post a notice on the FileMint homepage for significant updates

    • Continued use of FileMint after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
